Headteacher's Statement

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to St. Mary’s website.

The information in this website designed to give you as much information as possible about the many activities and opportunities, which take place in our exciting school. Our aim, quite simply is to do the very best for children and recognise their individuality and uniqueness. Childhood is a very special and wonderful time and no one gets a second chance at it.

We are very conscious that education is a partnership between home and school. We believe children are happiest and learn more effectively when there is a strong partnership between home and school. We also wish to strengthen our links with our parish and local community.

We are always delighted to see you and we trust that with your help your child will be a happy, well-educated and cherished member of our school.

Miss Siobhan Leonard

Developing the potential of every individual by providing the best education through experience of our Catholic, Christian Community within which all members can grow in faith.

Rothwell is a relatively prosperous, southern suburb of Leeds with a population of about 21,000 people. Originally larger than the city of Leeds its historical growth was based on the exploitation of extensive coal measures and inward immigration mainly from Ireland in the 19th century. The coalfields closed in the mid 1990s and the town has evolved as a commuting suburb, and particularly in recent years as a function of its excellent links to the M1, M62 and A1M motorways.

As the attached economic profile of the area shows Rothwell has higher economic activity than Leeds and relatively lower levels of unemployment compared to Leeds and UK averages. With its historically strong connections to Irish immigration as well as native Catholic stock the Parish and school of St Mary’s have flourished over the years.

Nestled in the heart of the “rhubarb triangle” the locality is well placed for access to high quality amenity, a wide range of sporting and culture life (also in the centre of the Yorkshire sculpture triangle), and excellent quality and value housing.
